The best way to discover Turin is walking under its porticos. The atmosphere is royal and elegant. You will discover the roman origins of the city : there are still gates and the ruins of the theatre; then you will be fascinated by its renaissance cathedral and ravished by the history of the Holy Shroud still kept inside. The city is mainly "Baroque". Many Palaces and Churches were projected by very famous Italian architects, such as Guarino Guarini or Filippo Juvara. Turin was the capital of the Savoy Family. They lived in the Royal Palace and they spent many days of the year in their hunting residences, so gorgeous ! This family unified Italy in 1861 and so Turin became the first capital of the country.
The "Mole Antonelliana" is the symbol of the city. A high tower (167.5 mt), dating back 1889. It was the highest tower made of bricks in Europe !
Turin is also the capital of chocolate, so a "Choco-break" in one of the historic cafés will be possible. Perhaps you might try a "bicerin" a fantastic drink made of coffee, hot chocolate and milk cream, served in a glass. You will admire our squares, such as San Carlo, Carignano and Carlo Alberto.
