About this tour

Take the cable car to Monte, for about 15 minutes, and admire the stunning views over Funchal bay. There you can visit the 18th-century Monte Church, a pilgrimage site, before enjoy a thrilling toboggan ride down the narrow streets to Livramento, a suburb of Funchal. Originally a speedy means of transport to the centre in the 19th-century, the sledges are pushed and steered by two men, who use their rubber-soled boots as brakes... the 2km downhill run takes about 10 minutes and can reach speeds of 45km per hour... A Must!
Later immerse yourself in the island’s flourishing green spaces, and visit the Madeira Botanical Garden, a beautiful park built by the Reid family as a summer house, with a big collection of plants. A paradise for nature lovers.

Note from your guide

As you go up to 600 metres high, it can be a bit cooler - a jacket/pullover is recommended.
Some walking on cobbled stones and steps to the church (about 70 steps) - Good comfortable shoes is recommended.
The cable car and toboggan are optional. Guests decide on the site, but te cable car can't be reserved - sometimes it's necessary to wait in a long queue, so to avoid the wait the guide can change the program and take the cable car down instead of going up.
The Toboggan can't be reserved - sometimes it's necessary to wait in a long queue.

Yes - BUT the guide must call the driver in various points in order to take the wheelchair - to the church; to the toboggan. It is possible to visit the gardens but the path is not so smooth - cobbled stones!
