In Norway we enjoy a law introduced by the Viking king Magnus Lagaböte, the “right to roam”. The reason behind this law is that just 3% of the Norwegian land is suitable for agricultural purposes, therefore it was vital for the Norwegians to be able to hunt, fish and forage. Norwegians are still free to walk wherever we want, as long as it is off cultivated land, and we are free to forage for example wild berries and mushroom.
On this tour I will take you a short drive, in my private car, to a suitable area where we can go for a walk and look for mushroom. There is less variety of mushroom this far north but there are usually chanterelles, hedgehog mushroom or red-capped scaber stalk to be found. If you can’t bring any of “the catch” with you, we may enjoy a snack of mushroom prepared on a camp fire.
On this tour you should be equipped accordingly with the season which may require waterproof clothing and boots. The paths may be wet and muddy. Equipment for foraging (basket and knife) will be provided.
