The Accademia Gallery in Florence is a must after the Uffizi Gallery. Those who come to Florence for the first time cannot miss this museum, as it is the original home of Michelangelo's David, the absolute symbol of art in the world. The statue was taken to the Gallery in 1873 to protect it from weather deterioration. In its place, on Piazza Della Signoria, now stands a copy of the famous statue.
I invite you to experience the real thrill to see David up close and not just its copy. "Feel" the energy of the real David!
The Academy is also home to Michelangelo's The Prisoners and St. Matthew, a collection of Renaissance masterpieces by Ghirlandaio, Perugino, Lippi, and many other masterpieces.
Highlights: You will learn everything you need to know about Michelangelo’s life and the story of the statue of Davide.
