Populated from pre-hispanic times, lake Patzcuaro has an important number of indigenous communities. Around Janitzio Island, the local fishermen still do the fishing with famous butterfly nets in canoes early morning. As of 1534, the city of Patzcuaro was a state capital and Spanish families will transform the architecture around the main square.
