This activity takes place in a protected area, a Site of Scientific Interest: the Janubio area. We take advantage of this experience to learn about the operation of the old Janubio salt flats (of volcanic origin and evaporation of water) and to discover several lime kilns too.
We walk along the Janubio beach, a black beach of volcanic origin. Here we discover the typical vegetation of the coastal area of the island of Lanzarote, learning to distinguish some of the native species. We approach the area of the lagoons and the old salt flats where, with a bit of luck and with great caution, we will try to spot some of the protected birds that usually nest here.
While learning about the old salt pans, we talk about the rol of women in the salt industry and the importance of the lime kiln for the island of Lanzarote.
