Riga, Latvia: Private tours and shore excursions with local guides

Discover Riga :
Riga, the capital of Latvia, is a city with a long history. It was founded in 1201 by German crusaders as a trading post. After a long period of Swedish control, it became part of Denmark in the 17th century and then became part of Russia in 1917 following the Russian Revolution. After World War II it was briefly occupied by Nazi Germany and then retaken by Soviet forces.
Riga is located on the banks of the rivers Daugava and Gauja (Latvian for “Gully”). Originally built on marshland, Riga has grown up around them both. The location at the mouth of two rivers makes Riga an important trade hub, especially important for trading timber from the surrounding forests. The city is also a center for shipbuilding and other heavy industries.
Riga has been one of the most important cities in medieval Europe. In 1201 it became the capital of the Livonian Order, which was established to defend against Baltic tribes, especially the Swedes. Under Danish rule (1621-1721), Riga became a major commercial center and remained so until World War I. During WWI, Riga was occupied by German troops from September 1917 to March 1918 and again from September 1918 to November 1918. During this period, many buildings were destroyed or damaged and many civilians were killed by artillery fire or starvation.
It's a great place to visit if you're looking for somewhere unique and authentic. You can also take tours of the city by boat, or go hiking in nature parks like Cibatu Park. Riga is also home to one of Latvia's oldest universities, as well as several other colleges and schools.

Anna
Hi, I'm Anna,
I am a certified guide from Riga (FR, ENG, RU).
In 2006 I received my diploma in humanities and my first guiding diploma.
Today I work as a guide in Riga, Latvia and I am a guide for French speaking groups in the three Baltic States.
I love Riga for its mix of architectural styles, its narrow winding streets, its charming little cafes ... The city is a compendium of architectural treasures of Art Nouveau and Slavic and Germanic influences that shape a historical city, where the must-see sites are a must. My mission is not only to unveil them to you, but also to take you to unknown or more hidden sites and places and show you "my" city as I love it and would like to make you love it!
During my excursions I do not only tell historical facts, but also legends and stories of the inhabitants of the city.
Solid knowledge, responsibility and friendliness are my three pillars.
I speak:
Français, English, Russkiy, Latvian
