About this tour...
This is the only place where a visitor can experience unique finds you can see nowhere else in the world. The Vergina gold treasures and royal tombs are the most important archaeological discovery of the 20th century in Greece.
The classical pebble mosaics of Pella are the only ones from the 4th century BC found in such a good condition in the ruined villas.
Visit the two Macedonian kingdom capitals at your own pace, learn about this great ancient kingdom of Philip II and Alexander the Great and enjoy a traditional taverna lunch break in between.
We'll visit:
Archaeological Site at Pella, west of Thessaloniki to see the birthplace of Alexander the Great with its unique ancient Greek pebble mosaic floors in the villas of Helen and Dionysus, followed by a visit of the new Archaeological Museum of Pella, then drive to the Museum of the Royal Tombs of Aigai (Vergina), a UNESCO site and the most important excavation of Greece discovered in 1977, with its gold and silver treasures, dating back from the 4th c. BC. All these are housed in an impressive underground museum next to the tombs excavated.
