About this tour...
Cinque Terre overlook the sea, they are located between the Punta Montenero and Punta Mesco promontories and are famous all over the world for their charm, due to the many elements.
Fishing villages between land and sea, where time seems to stand still.
This tour allows you to discover the main features of the Cinque Terre National Park. Some of the characteristics are: the geographical position, the unaltered environment, transformed over the centuries by man but untouched by industrialization; a history that is essentially linked to wine, fishing, maritime commercial activities; the architecture of the landscape characterized by brightly coloured houses; fortifications to defend the coast; small ports, medieval churches and terraced extensions used for vineyards supported by simple walls.
Cinque Terre is a National Park and since 1997 has become a UNESCO World Site.
Our tour starts in Manarola with a visit to the church dedicated to Saint Lawrence, built in the Middle Ages in the highest part of the village. Then we go towards the sea through narrow streets, small waterfalls and mills and we can cross the characteristic terraced vineyards where the Cinque Terre wine is produced. We take a walk along the Sentiero Azzurro to reach a panoramic view and admire another village of the Cinque Terre: Corniglia.
Later, in the morning, we take the train to Monterosso, the largest and most populated of the five villages. In the oldest part of the village there is the church dedicated to St. John the Baptist and the Baroque Oratory. After lunch and after free time to visit Monterosso with its shops and typical products, we continue our tour.
We will visit Vernazza and its splendid church dedicated to Santa Margherita d'Antiochia, which overlooks the sea and is surrounded by rocks covered by the Mediterranean scrub and vineyards.
Afterwards with the train we go back to La Spezia and then on foot we reach the cruise terminal.
