A guided walk in the city of Bodø by a local, and stories about the way of life in the Arctic
About this tour...
The municipality of Bodø is located just north of the Arctic Circle and the town of Bodø is the largest urban area and town in Nordland county, and the second-largest town in North Norway. The village of Bodø was granted township status in 1816 and soon after, in 1818, it was known for the Bodø affair, smuggling by British merchants and accusations that later were compensated by Norway.
Most of the town of Bodø was destroyed during World War II. Six thousand people were living in Bodø, and 3500 people lost their homes in an attack in May 1940.
Due to the acute lack of housing, the Swedish Government helped build 107 apartments in the winter of 1941. These houses were built tightly together just outside the town. This small area, today in the heart of Bodø, is still called Svenskebyen ("the Swedish Town").
During the last twenty years the city has been upgraded and the office buildings have been modernised as the area is thriving and the city is expanding.
Bodø is named one of the European Capitals of Culture for 2024.
On this tour I will meet you at the pier and take you for a guided walk through the town and tell you about the history of Bodø and the Nordic region and how people have lived here for several thousand years. I will tailor the sights and stories according to your interests and may take you for a drive in my private car if you want to experience the nature and stunning sceneries which surrounds the city.

Meet your guide
I was born and grew up in Bodø. I love to travel and I am proud to welcome visitors to this beautiful corner of the world. Like most Norwegians I enjoy the "al fresco" life, what we call "friluftsliv", and I use the nature in a sustainable way, foraging berries, mushrooms and edible plants.
I hope I will be able to convey the interesting and funny parts of the history of Bodø to you and provide you with an unforgettable experience.
