About this tour...

A visit to Westminster Abbey, the Royal Church, followed by a Thames river cruise in the footsteps of kings and queens to Her Majesty’s Royal Palace and Fortress: The Tower of London.

Westminster Abbey is where monarchs are crowned, 38 Coronations to date, and there are more than 3,000 people buried and commemorated in the church. The shrine of St Edward the Confessor is a key feature although the present church, 500 years in the making, is largely the work of King Henry III who revered St Edward. Prince William and Kate Middleton, now The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, were married here in 2011.

Option to walk along Whitehall. After a lunch break, a short cruise on the River Thames takes us to The Tower of London.

The Tower: a jewel in the crown. Literally. This palace is where the Crown Jewels are kept and can be seen. There are centuries of history to explore: see where prisoners were brought in, marvel at the fortifications. Hear stories of prisoners and what happened to them. The Tower’s yeomen warders, the ‘Beefeaters’, and the ravens will be keeping an eye on us! It’s a magic experience!

Yes, although Tower of London is better suited to children than Westminster Abbey. The Tower with its stories of some gruesome events in history and the ravens etc is very child friendly!

Some uneven surfaces for wheel chair users and parts of the Tower are not wheel chair accessible.

Come on an entertaining and informative tour with Robert. So much to show you !

I am a Londoner and I have worked in the capital all of my career, except for 2 years overseas. I have travelled widely and I appreciate what appeals to visitors to London.

I particularly enjoy taking family groups on tours. As a volunteer at Westminster Abbey I guide groups of school children and students around the Abbey which adds another dimension to my guiding and enjoyment. For my tours I use a mix of walking, private hire cabs, public transport and, in London, river boat services.

Within London, there are two cities - The City of London, the ‘Square Mile’, a global financial centre characterised by its cutting-edge modern architecture and its medieval lanes and with a dominant feature being St Paul’s Cathedral. Famous and infamous people have left their mark on the City. I have worked in finance and banking so I can explain in an interesting way the commercial background to the City’s development. As a Freeman of the City of London I have the symbolic privilege of being allowed to drive sheep across London Bridge!

And in Westminster, the second city, we can explore palaces, parks, pageantry and Royal heritage.

London is amazing and I offer enthusiasm and organisation to bring you a great experience.

What people say about my tours:
“Thank you for a fascinating and inspirational morning….” (comment by RE)
“….greatly enjoyed the fascinating and amusing guided tour of the City you gave on Saturday” (Private tour group)
“We had a wonderful day today seeing just the smallest sliver of the rich history of London”. (MT, Connecticut).
